You can see this wonderful experience here. Video Norwegian Fjords – Lofoten Ski Mountaineering
The more we travel to Norway, the more we realize the enormous potential this country has when it comes to ski mountaineering. From Manaslu Adventures , we present to you one of the most exotic and wild trips that we can possibly find in mountain skiing. In this case, we will travel to one of the most precious destinations for mountain skiing, Lofoten in Norway.
Lofoten is undoubtedly a unique place. It is an archipelago of islands located off the west coast of Norway , north of the Arctic Circle. Its main islands are Austvågøy, Gimsøy, Vestvågøy, Flakstadøy, Moskenesøy, Værøy and Røst. The group of islands, the abundance of peaks that fall abruptly into the sea, the contrast of the snowy landscape with the ocean, the northern lights and the pleasant and always attentive people that one meets in these latitudes will make us enjoy magnificent days ascending to exotic mountains. We will stay in comfortable cabins in Svolvaer where we will have all kinds of amenities. We will enjoy dinners of fresh fish bought directly from the fishermen. We will not have enough days to travel through all the lines that our eyes see, but we will have enough days to travel through a good part of them. This mountain ski trip, in addition to leaving us with a good taste in our mouths, will open the horizon for future adventures with our mountain skis in these latitudes. Take advantage of this opportunity and travel to a peculiar, unique and very special destination.
The southernmost part of Norway’s largest island, Hinnøy, is also located in Lofoten. Thanks to the action of the warm Gulf Stream, it has a milder climate than other parts of the world located at the same latitude, such as Alaska and Greenland. Lofoten’s coastal climate makes winters mild and summers relatively cool. The landscape of Lofoten is truly stunning, with rugged mountain peaks rising above icy waters. Despite the difficult nature of the archipelago, there are wonderful details that make this one of the most amazing tourist places in Norway. The austere red fishermen’s houses, the rows of cod hanging to dry and the boats that sail slowly through the fjords to deliver mail in almost uninhabited areas are some of these details that make Lofoten.

Day 1: Travel Day. Flight to Narvik with a stopover in Oslo. Transfer from Airport to Accommodation.
Day 2: Mount Varden. First ascent of the week. We begin with a calm ascension with possibilities of expanding it. Incredible views of the fjords and good snow shovels to make your first contact with the arctic snow.
Day 3 : Mount Rundfjellet Surely one of the most popular and visited ski mountains on the Island. Easy but
with an aerial arrival and very spectacular snow ridge to its summit. Possibility of combining cars to go down another slope.
Day 4: Boat trip to Trollfyorden and visit on skis to the Trollfyordhytta refuge: Probably one of the plans we are most excited about in this program. Travel by boat with our skis and backpacks as luggage to spend a day in one of the most remote and lonely places in this part of the planet. A trip on a small boat from the port of Svolvaer itself and in about 30 minutes it will take us to Troll Fjord. Protected and preserved place where you have to request a special permit to be seen. An inhospitable and wild place like few others where we will take a good tour on skis until we reach the Trollfyordhytta refuge, the only human vestige in all the surroundings, where we will eat and then ski back to the coast where the boat will pick us up and return to Svolvaer.
Day 5: Mount Torksmammen and Breitinden: Double ascent in the purest Nordic style. We climb up snowy slopes
until we reach the snowy Torksmammen cirque. Many possibilities from here to go up and down different places. Then second, shorter climb this time to the top of Breitinden and a long descent to the car.
Day 6: Geitgaljartinden. The most technical and alpine ascent of the program. This peak is presented as one of the
highest and most impressive on the Island. If the conditions and the level of the group are up to par, we can go down its large Northwest corridor with a medium slope that will make us test our technique on steep slopes. reaching 45º especially in
the upper part.
Day 7: The Kvanndalen Valley is undoubtedly the steepest descent from Mount Eitgaljen. When the conditions are right, the crossing is a real pleasure.
The descent ends at Austpollen beach where we will end up walking along the coast with skis behind us, closing a legendary week of skiing that we will hardly forget.
Day 8: Return Day. Transfer to Narvik Airport.
All climbs will have between 1,000 meters – 1,200m of elevation gain. Distance: 12 – 18 km approximately.
