The Island Peak is located in the Sagarmatha National Park, in the Everest area. The peak was named in 1951 by a team led by Eric Shipton, as it looked like an island in a sea of ice when viewed from Dingboche, a town at 4,410 m. The peak was later renamed in 1983 to Imja Tse, but is still popularly known as Island Peak. Island Peak was first climbed in 1953 as part of training for a British expedition aiming for Everest.
Climbing Island Peak is one of the easy activities to reach the summit of six thousand (higher than Kilimanjaro). You don’t need much previous experience, since it is not very technical, but you do need to be in good physical shape and have used the basic winter equipment, crampons and ice axe.
Before the ascent we do the acclimatization trek to Everest Base Camp. The trekking days are very pleasant and offer magnificent views of the Sherpa villages, their houses with their roofs of different colors, the prayer flags of Buddhist monasteries. Likewise, the excursion gives you the opportunity to discover the culture of the people of the Solu Khumbu Valley.

Few vaccinations are recommended before flying to Nepal, although vaccination may not be necessary if you are not visiting the Terai area (south of the border with India). We strongly recommend that you consult with your tropical medicine doctor in your country before flying to Nepal.
We recommend that you be careful with the water you drink in Nepal. Before drinking, use purification pills or boiled water.
When eating in places where you are unsure about hygiene, avoid ordering fresh food like salads, etc. It is better to order cooked food; This ensures that germs are killed during the cooking process.
Our contract requires that the client take out insurance for the specific activity to be carried out. Make sure the coverage is correct and includes emergency medical evacuation and rescue corresponding to the altitude you will reach on your trek.
With this insurance you will not have any problem accessing medical services in Nepal.
Spring and autumn are the best seasons for trekking in the Solukhumbu region. Blue skies and very pleasant temperatures are expected. Even so, at altitude, the nights are very cold. During the day, the sun can be very aggressive to the skin and you should protect yourself with sunscreen to avoid burns.
On the other hand, although the weather is excellent at this time of year, the activity we do is in the high mountains. That means that the weather can surprise us. Therefore, we must wear clothing for any type of weather situation.
Lukla airport is at an altitude of 2800m and in the mountains the weather changes from one moment to the next. If weather conditions are not suitable, it may result in cancellations of flights to Lukla. Just in case we have an extra day on this itinerary.
Although cancellations are not expected at this time of year, it is highly recommended that participants purchase cancellation insurance when purchasing their international flight to Kathmandu.
