Manaslu region is one of the most pristine and newest regions of Nepal. Manaslu Conservation Area was declared as such in 1998 to conserve natural resources, culture, heritage, animal life and promote eco tourism to develop local life.
Manaslu is the eighth highest mountain in the world, 8163m. It is situated in the west-central part of Nepal, the Gorkha district, on Mansiri Himal, which means “mountain of spirits”. This trek offers a route of about 177 kilometers in the form of a circuit passing through the Larkya La pass and ending the Annapurna Conservation Area. This route was first opened in 1991. It is a trek that is slowly being discovered among hikers, although it still retains an authenticity that is not found in more popular treks in Nepal.
This region is home to animals such as the snow leopard, the red panda, the lynx, the Asian black bear, the gray wolf, the blue sheep and about 110 species of birds including the golden eagle, pheasant, Tibetan roosters… The vegetation varies. depending on the area we are in. We passed through magical forests of rhododendron and blue pine.
Two main ethnic groups live in the Manaslu region, the Nubri and the Tsum, although in the lower part the Gurung live (known for joining the Gurkhas in numerous cases). In the most mountainous area, the predominant religious practice is Buddhist and we can find numerous monasteries, walls engraved with mantras called “manis”, chortens or stupas, and other forms of Buddhist art.
