With its high mountains of more than 2000 m, with Rila and Pirin that almost reach 3000 m, Bulgaria is a country where the mountains are present in the culture and in the spirits. The Rila massif has a strong alpine character and magnificent forests. The peaks of the Malióvitsa region compete in size and beauty with those of the neighboring massif, Pirin, proud of its picturesque white marble reliefs. The northern part of Pirin is a National Park, inscribed on the UNESCO World Heritage list for the exceptional richness of its ecosystems and for the vast forests, in which some species are more than 1000 years old. The continental climate with Mediterranean influence helps for cold winters with a lot of snow and at this time of the year the two massifs become perfect terrain for mountain skiing.
During this trip, ski touring fans will be able to savor the pleasure of snowy hills off the slopes and will also enjoy cuisine and good wines, music and traditional architecture, iconographic art and encounters. with the Bulgarian mountaineers.
Come with us and enjoy skimo in Bulgaria!

We have the first day in the mountains to get to know each other and take a circular route according to the conditions. The Cirque of the Seven Rila Lakes features a variety of ridges, peaks and slopes that are impressive and at the same time suitable for different levels of ski handling. Climbing Otovishki peak (2696m) is the classic, but not the only option. Return to the refuge for dinner and accommodation.
With plenty of options for the morning 1.5 hour transfer to Rila. A day of exploring the Malióvitsa Valley. One-hour climb to the shelter of the same name and from there ascent to Malióvitsa peak or one of the nearby peaks: there are several possibilities and itineraries with very good descents depending on the snow conditions. It is a full day of crossing the mountain to reach the neighboring valley, Malyovitsa. If time permits, we make a trek from the Rilski ezera refuge, following the main ridge with several peaks along the way and finally crowning the majestic Malyovitsa (2729m). The descent is a joy and adventure at the same time. We pass by the Malyovitsa shelter and go down to the parking lot where the bus is waiting for us. Short transfer to the town of Govedartsi for dinner and accommodation in a family hotel.
(+700/-1100m)
Short transfer to the oldest mountain resort in Bulgaria: Borovets (1350 m). From there we went up by cable car near the Yástrebets peak (2369 m). Here we put on the skis and, if the weather permits, we set off towards the highest point in Bulgaria and the entire Balkan Peninsula: the Musalá peak (2925 m). The ascent of the last 150m of elevation will be done with the skis hanging on the backpack along a steep and narrow ridge, equipped with a cable (possibility of leaving the skis at the Lédeno ézero refuge). Descent that requires very good ski handling to the Musalá refuge and a beautiful descent passing through the slopes of the Borovets station or through the valley of the Musalenska Bístritsa river.
