Take some time to arrive, check into your hotel room and enjoy delicious Jordanian cuisine for the first time. Depending on when your flight arrives, you’ll even have some time to explore Amman on your own.
At 7:30 a.m., just after breakfast, we will pick up the group at the hotel from Amman. The drive from Amman to the starting point of the hike takes approximately 2.5 hours. Our trekking trip begins with a hike through the diverse landscapes of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. The reserve includes four distinct ecozones and is therefore home to an amazing diversity of plants, birds and other animals. First, we will follow a trail along the mountains overlooking the Dana Valley and then descend into the Al Khashasha Valley. A wild camp awaits us on the outskirts of the valley.
Accommodation: Nature camp in Mansoura
Time: 5-7 hrs
Walking distance: 15 km
Ascent: 260 m
Descent: 690 m
Well rested, we will leave the camp early in the morning and head towards Furon. Today’s hike is challenging but extremely rewarding. We will begin to ascend the mountains for about an hour before catching a glimpse of the beautiful Sharah Mountains and the wide desert of Wadi Araba. That exceptional view will accompany you all the way to your camp in Al Furon. Enjoy a cup of tea and the great view from the campsite as you pass the time until your well-deserved dinner.
Accommodation: Wilderness Camp in Furon
Time: 5-7 hrs
Walking distance: 16 km
Ascent: 563 m
Descent: 170 m
Today’s walk passes through Ras Al-Feid and towards Ghbour Whedat, through some of the wildest corners of the country.
Contouring around the Sharah Mountains, we followed a trail made up of smaller connecting Bedouin shepherd trails. The bare, rugged black mountain peaks that dominate the trail and the sheer drops of the canyons below make this part of the hike spectacular.
As you gradually climb the hills, you’ll discover more spectacular views of the arid desert below. Then, as you make your way toward the wilderness camp, the landscape gradually becomes gentler, with mushroom-shaped rock formations lining the path.
