Our trekking trip begins with a hike through the diverse landscapes of the Dana Biosphere Reserve. The reserve includes four distinct eco-zones and is therefore home to an astonishing diversity of plants, birds and other animals. First, we will follow a trail along the mountains overlooking the Dana Valley and then descend into the alKhashasha Valley. A wild campsite awaits us on the outskirts of the valley.

Today’s hike is challenging but extremely rewarding. We will begin to ascend the mountains for about an hour before catching a glimpse of the beautiful Sharah Mountains and the wide desert of Wadi Araba. That exceptional view will accompany you all the way to your camp in Al Furon. Enjoy a cup of tea and the great view from the campsite as you pass the time until your well-deserved dinner.

On this day, we will start walking from Furon passing Ras AlFeid towards Ghbour Whedat. Today we will witness amazing views of some of the most remote and wild corners of Jordan.
Contouring around the Sharah Mountains, follow a path of mostly clear Bedouin shepherd trails.
The rugged peaks of the Black Mountains that dominate our trail and the sheer drops of the canyons below make this day absolutely spectacular.
We will gradually climb the hills to discover more spectacular views of the desert below. Afterwards, we will head to our wilderness camp in Ghbour Whedat.

After breakfast it is time to start the hike. We entered Petra through ‘The Back Door’ avoiding most of the tourists. We will pass along trails that pleasantly descend through Wadi Ghurab between sandstone mountains that protect the approaches to Petra.
This path follows a Nabataean route out of the valley and around the last mountain on a natural rock terrace that has been “improved” for the safety of walkers. Even so, it still narrows slightly before reaching a hidden plateau high above the stunning abyss of Wadi Siyyagh.
A little further on, carved into the cliff face, suddenly appears “The Monastery”, where there is a Bedouin cafe to have a refreshment if you wish. Next, we’ll explore Petra, passing rock-cut tombs, temples and the iconic Treasury. Then, we will return through the narrow canyon of the Siq.
