Shrouded in fog, mystery and legend, the Rwenzori Mountains are a unique enclave to disconnect and enjoy a trip surrounded by beautiful landscapes and unique settings in an area that remains largely unexplored.
Our tour will take you along challenging paths that will test your adventurous spirit, where you will enjoy tropical areas with the best views of Uganda. From the rainforest to the glaciers, it has some very lush plants due to the amount of constant rainfall.
In cloud forest areas, due to the saturation of fog that remains due to the lack of wind, unusual species grow such as giant lobelias, giant Senecio battiscombei, giant heathers, and bamboos. The following material is essential that you take with you. Arrival in the city of Entebbe. Transfer by road, from Entebbe International Airport to Karibu Entebbe.
Entebbe is an amazing city located on the northern shore of Lake Victoria. It offers attractions such as the Uganda Wildlife Education Centre, where you can visit a variety of native wildlife species. The Botanical Garden is another place that you cannot miss, as it has a diverse collection of tropical plants and trees. You will also have the opportunity to engage in recreational activities such as boat cruises, fishing and bird watching.
In the morning we have a transfer to the town of Kasese, located in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains.
The mountains and proximity to Queen Elizabeth National Park make it a popular destination for travelers who want to explore the region. Kasese is known as the gateway to the Rwenzori Mountains, also known as the “Mountains of the Moon.”
This majestic mountain range offers stunning landscapes and diverse ecosystems that will leave you speechless.
The hotel is located in the foothills of the Rwenzori Mountains and offers comfortable and well-equipped rooms.
In the morning after breakfast in Kase
Yes, we will leave early to start the walk from Trekkers Hostel at 1,450 meters. We will be able to sleep in Sine Hut at 2,596 meters, with a drop of 1,146 meters. The bravest will have the option to continue the adventure, adding a little more difficulty, to head to the Kalalama camp at 3,134 meters.
We will walk along the bottom of the valley through the tall trees of the Montano forest, a constant climb where we can enjoy local fauna such as birds, blue monkeys or chimpanzees.
We will be able to enjoy the impressive waterfalls that are just 200 meters from Sine Hut.
In Sine Camp you can rest in wooden tents located in tall trees where you will enjoy incredible views of the forest and a majestic waterfall. You can also enjoy the warmth of the campfire while chatting with the rest of the group.
After breakfast, we begin the walk at 8:30am entering the Bamboo-Mimulopsis area, a steep area with large steps, which in the rainy season becomes quite muddy, which makes progress slower.
You can enjoy Camp Kalalama at 3,147 meters, in the Heather-Rapanea area, where you can rest and have a cup of coffee or tea before heading to Camp Mutinda
For those hikers climbing Margherita or any of the main peaks, climbing Mutinda at 3,975 meters is a great way to acclimatise and reduce altitude risk.
We begin our tour by ascending a rocky channel, to cross a long stretch of peat bogs, some with walkways, until we reach the top of a waterfall. From there, we will descend Hunwicks Pass, a trail that passes between two high peaks known as Twin Peaks. From this area we can see several species of birds such as falcons and eagles.
We will walk along a path that crosses a peat bog rich in lobelia plants. We will continue our journey between tall heather and large rocks covered with moss.
Just 200 meters from the camp is Kiharo Falls, a majestic waterfall cascading over moss-covered rocks, a place worth visiting.
After breakfast, we explore the forest area of the Rwenzori Mountains, along a trail that descends from Kiharo Camp through the Nyamwamba Valley.
We will take a break at Forest View Camp, 2580 meters above sea level, to enjoy a well-deserved lunch and drink, enjoying views of the dense forest, valley and town of Kilembe.
We’ll transfer to a coffee farm in the hills off the main route to Kampala, where you can take in the incredible views of the hills, explore the river and wander the farm trails.
You’ll do activities like bouldering and mountain biking, and you’ll have the opportunity to take an exciting guided tour of the farm by jeep. You can also roast some farm coffee and enjoy fresh, locally prepared dishes.
The farm is at 1,500 meters and is located on the main route from Fort Portal to Entebbe. You will meet the locals and be able to make coffee with them.
The coffee farm staff will guide you through the coffee forest, showing you the nursery and coffee factory, where you will learn about coffee growing and processing. You can even pick your own coffee cherries or coffee trees.
The tour concludes with a special coffee tasting and tasting experience in our coffee laboratory, where you will discover the various flavors of coffee in a unique way, ending your trip through the majestic mountains of Uganda in the best possible way.
