In the small region of Alto Gállego located in the North of the Province of Huesca, is the beautiful Tena Valley or Bal de Tena as it is said in Aragonese. This valley marked by the Caldarés River, a tributary of the Gállego River, hides true treasures of nature: large mountains such as the Vignemale 3298m or the Gran Facha 3005, glaciers such as Oulettes or Ara. Impressive waterfalls, green valleys and spectacular lakes of glacial origin such as Bachimaña, Brazato or Perforado.
This journey will allow you to discover the Panticosa and Ara valleys on the Spanish side, and the Gaube and Marcadau Valleys on French territory. It is precisely one of the peculiarities of this trekking, with which together, we travel part of the Oscense Pyrenees and part of the French Pyrenees located in the Department of Haute-Pyrénnés two slopes with different climatology, orientation and orography that They will give us true postcard landscapes.
A strong point of the Traverse is the ascent to the spectacular Cirque de Outletes du Gaube at 2145 m through the Gaube valley itself. A very special ascent, because from the very beginning the emblematic North face of Vignemale 3298 m is imposed as a backdrop. This complex Rock Massif has been and is an ambitious goal for climbers from all over the world who have seen on its most exposed side beautiful lines for climbing dreams. With a somewhat less ambitious objective but of enormous beauty and as long as the general conditions allow it, we will ascend to Petit Vignemale 3032 m a magnificent viewpoint of the Ossoue Glacier.
To finish and as a return route, we will tour the unique Ara Valley, through the Puerto de los Mulos 2593m, a designated place where the Ara River is born, and the Puerto de Brazato , the last ascent of the adventure from which we will see our final point with the Baños de Panticosa Spa.
This adventure will also allow you to live the “bivouac” experience, since in the Refuge du Chalet du Clot we will have an area enabled to set up our tents and feel the night in its pure state!
During the days of the route, the planned accommodation will be two nights in shelters and one night in “bivouac“, an area enabled to set up our tents and feel the night in its purest state. .
The shelters are comfortable to rest, sleep and dine. In the shelters they will be able to prepare food to take away and be able to eat well during the days on the route. The mountain huts have good services. They have basic services such as toilets, showers, bunk beds, blankets, lockers, meals, radio, etc.
Moderate technical level. This program is designed for people accustomed to doing mountain activities with a medium effort capacity and consolidated technical skill on irregular rocky terrain. That is, it is not a program suitable for people who are initiated or have no experience in high mountain trekking.

Day that takes place in the middle of the high mountains, marked by the ascent of Collado de Marcadau or Pecico 2500m, the highest point of the day, and after a pause for contemplation, travel through the entire Marcadau valley to Refuge du Chalet du Clot, and on to the terrain. French. Place where we can make a very comfortable bivouac in the prepared area of the same refuge.

Long but very comfortable climbing day along the entire Gaube Valley to the great viewpoint of the spectacular north face of the Vignemale Massif with the large granite walls and the recognizable Pitón Carré, Punta Chausenque, Petit Vignemale and Vignemale. Without a doubt, the most significant point of the journey.
Possibility of ascending to Petit Vignemale (3032m) if general conditions allow it. It is an affordable ascent and a gift for all those people who want to live the experience of summiting at 3000m.
Traverse +1000m/-1500m/15km/7-8h
Return day that passes practically entirely through the Ara valley. Valley marked by the river that bears its name and a complex topography that draws the Circus of Ara. Two ascents will mark this last day. Climb to Collado de los Mulos and last climb of the Travesía towards Puerto Brazato, from where we will see our final point.
THE VALLEY
Tena is one of the largest valleys in the Pyrenees.
