We invite you to explore the Pirinexus route, a 340-kilometer route that offers a great variety of landscapes. This route crosses ancient forests, unique volcanoes, natural parks, vineyards and virgin coves.
This circular route will allow you to discover two territories with a lot of history: the regions of Girona and Vallespir. You will find historical paths such as those of Retirada, places that will transport you to Greek and Roman times such as the ruins of Empúries, and emblematic cities such as Girona.
Along the route we will find charming hotels, a renowned gastronomic and wine tradition and services dedicated to cycle tourists. We will pedal along greenways, forest tracks and roads with little traffic.

We will leave Girona following the Carrilet route towards Olot. The Carrilet greenway is an old railway route with little accumulated unevenness, which runs through an environment with a high natural and heritage value. The greenway reaches Olot, which stands out for its high geological and landscape interest.
Leaving Olot, we will go up the Coubet pass and the Santigosa pass until our end of the stage in Sant Joan de les Abadesses.
In Sant Joan de les Abadesses we will take the green route again to Sant Pau de Segúries. Next, we will cross the main road to take an uphill path that will take us to Camprodon. Leaving the town, once we have passed the Ritort river, we will begin to see high mountain landscapes, since the port that will take us to the Ares pass begins.
From this point, we resume the route along the road to the highest point of the route and border crossing, the Ares pass (1,510 meters). We entered French territory and began the descent to the end of the stage in Voló, by road and bike paths.
We will begin the third stage in the Voló along paved roads going up to the port of Panissars (361 meters) to cross the border again. From here, the descent towards La Jonquera begins.
This is the most technically difficult point of the route. A descent begins along a sandy forest track with a high gradient. Once we have crossed La Jonquera, we will continue towards the sea. Next, we will find the towns of Capmany and Peralada, which stand out for their wine-growing tradition, with wineries where we can enjoy a guided tour. We continue the route to L’Escala, the first point where we will find the Costa Brava.
We will begin the last stage in L’Escala, towards Palafrugell. This section runs along tracks and secondary roads. This area stands out for its agricultural tradition, especially for its fruit fields.
In Palafrugell we take the green route of the Petit Train, the old route of the little train that connected Palamós with Girona, passing through Bisbal d’Empordà. We will continue through the coastal towns to Sant Feliu de Guíxols, where the Carrilet II greenway begins, which will take us to Girona.
